Hello Newsletter Editors, Web Managers, Guild Contacts, Regional Presidents, and more,

This is Nick Hubbard, writing to you in my capacity as part of the organizing team for the 2013 Puppeteers of America National Festival. Below is a call for photos from past national festivals that I hope you will be willing to communicate to your members and communities, whether through your newsletters, websites, or upcoming meetings. As you will see, we are looking for the photos to post to our Facebook page and possibly our festival website. All the information you need should be there, but if you have any questions feel free to contact me or Carole D’Agostino, who is the lead for this photo-posting project: hellocarole@yahoo.com

Hello Puppeteers of America guilds! This is Nick Hubbard, part of the organizing team for the next PofA National Festival in 2013. One of our goals in planning the Festival is to promote Community and encourage new people to join P of A. To that end, we are searching for photos from past National Festivals that feature folks having fun. We’re hoping that some of you might be willing to share 2 or 3 of your favorite photos with our Facebook page and possibly our festival website?

We’re looking for photos of people hanging out, having a good time, not necessarily fancy production shots. These photos are not for profit, they are simply part of a photo album that people can see and share with friends on Facebook and possibly the festival website.

You can see how we present the images, thank the donor, and let folks tag themselves. It’s a nice variety!

We are giving credit for photos wherever possible. If you have concerns about privacy, let us know and we can discuss. Some donors have taken the step to contact people in the photos for permission, though that is not necessary. If you do not wish to be credited, that is also ok.

Ten Years of PuppetFest MidWest!

Our 10th Annual PuppetFest MidWest will be held in Trenton, Missouri on July 10 -15, 2012.  Have you seen our updated PuppetFest MidWest website?  We have all of this year’s workshops listed (several brand new ones, too!),  photos from years gone by, and even a cooking section! You can download our registration form as well.  Full registration, room and board fees and everything you need to know to have an inspiring puppet time right here in the wilds of Missouri this summer.

There are five Public performances at the Fest.  Three of them are already listed on our website, the others are coming soon!  Scholarship info has been updated and is available on the website.

To get an idea of what has been taught and performed at the first NINE PuppetFest MidWests, please click the link on the website to “past PuppetFest MidWest festivals”. You can read reviews from excited participants of our first NINE Festivals. This year’s PuppetFest is funded in part by the Missouri Arts Council.  We certainly hope to see you at this year’s PuppetFest MidWest!  We have only 75 spaces available, so please register early.

Puppeteers of Puget Sound Members attending National Festival

Clay Martin Puppet Theatre and Thistle Theatre are two of the 18 puppet groups invited to perform at the Puppeteers of America 75th National Puppet Festival the week of July 12- 17 2011 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Clay Martin Puppets

Clay Martin Puppet Theatre will be performing Penny Dreadful – An Evening of Gothic Horror, a collection of gothic horror stories performed in a variety of puppet styles including FRANKENSTEIN, DRACULA, and THE MUMMY’S CURSE presented with hand puppets, DR JEKYL AND MR HYDE in the form of a giant Toy Theater, and THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO presented as a shadow play. Thoth (whom many may remember as the Egyptian God of Magic) is the Master of Ceremonies. Variety numbers, including THE MAGIC MAN and THE DANCING SKELETON will be interspersed throughout the show to provide a bit of amusement amidst the otherwise unrelenting gloom.

Thistle Theatre will be performing Brother Coyote and Sister Fox a comic Mexican trickster tale. Lisa A. Haslbauer, Brian Stabile and Gina Wilhelm are puppeteers in the production directed by Jean Enticknap. The play was adapted from traditional Mexican stories by Stephanie Diaz and Jean Enticknap, original music and songs by Sue Ennis.  Created in the Thistle Theatre studio in 2002, the puppet were designed by the current President of the Puppeteers of Puget Sound, Brian Kooser and built by Brian Kooser, Jean Enticknap and Hyeon-Soog Chung.

Also attending the festival from the region are: Elly Leaverton who is currently the Pacific Northwest Regional Director; Nick Hubbard who will be elected a Trustee for the Puppeteers of American at the festival; and Gavin Cummins who is attending a national festival for the first time.
